About SPRC

Space technology, which requires top level base technologies, is a high value-added future growth power that has a great ripple effect on other industries and people’s life. Highly developed countries are racing for aerospace technology competition. Space technology is divided into satellite and space launch vehicle. Among them, Space launch vehicle technology is bounded to the national security; that interchanging of transferring it between countries is strictly controlled. Our center develops basic core skills about propulsion engine used for KSLV-2 and next generation space launcher systems, trains advanced experts for launcher technology, interchanges new technologies about advanced propulsion engine through conference with other overseas research organizations.

Goals for next generation space propulsion technology are following three: Highly Reliability, High Efficiency, Reusability. Studies among these concepts is necessary not only for the Korea Space Launch Vehicle, but also for the future commercial launchers and space explorations.

› High Reliability

Research on ensuring a reliability of space launch vehicle through predicting and reducing the combustion instability in main combustion chamber and integrated instability (structure-flow-propulsion), and technique for stabilizing a launch vehicles

› High Efficiency

Research on Spray characteristics of Liquid-Gas injector related with staged combustion cycle & LES analysis and spray/combustion test in supercritical conditions & Combustion-Flame response characteristics

› Reusability

Research on Methane engine combustor design and performance evaluation & Mechanism of flame stabilization & Pintle injector and variable thrust nozzle for throttling & Performance analysis on small engine through CFD
